Be Thou My Vision (2016) SATB and piano – An anthem written to celebrate the tenure of Dr. Chris Mathews at Union University.

Psalm 148 (2015) SATB, piano and flute – An upbeat setting of the Stopford A. Brooke paraphrase of Psalm 148.

God of Mercy (2015) TTBB and piano – A stirring anthem for men’s choir that uses a Henry F. Lyte paraphrase of Psalm 67.

Uncontained (2015) SSAATTBB, 4.5 minutes – A lyrical setting of the Emerson text, “Music.” Commissioned by Blair Chadwick for the Henry County High School Madrigals (TN).

Come Thou Fount (2015) SA and 4 hand piano, 2.5 minutes – An exuberant setting of the OLNEY tune.

Salmo 100 (2014) SSAATTBB, 3 minutes – An exciting setting of Psalm 100 using an original Spanish translation of the text.

Rejoice in the Lord (2014) SSAATTBB, 3 minutes – A lively work that uses selected verses from Psalm 33 set to two Irish tunes from the Petrie collection.

De Profundis (2014) SSAATTBB, 4 minutes – Commissioned by Johnny Kimbrough for the Jackson Christian School and their invitational choral trip to Verona, Italy. Sets the poem of the same name by Christina Rosetti.

Virga Jesse (2013) SSAATTBB, 5 minutes – Commissioned by Dr. Geoff Ward and the Memphis Chamber Choir for their 2013 Lessons and Carols concert. Sets the traditional Latin paraphrase of Isaiah 11 of the same name.

God Be In My Head (2009) SSAATTBB, 3 minutes – A sweeping setting of the simple benediction text God Be in My Head.

Choral – Children

If I Could (2012) Two-part choir and piano, 5.5 minutes – A work commissioned by James Levy and the Noble Prentiss 5/6 choir to memorialize a student tragically lost to brain cancer. Original text by Patricia L. Hamilton

Music Is . . . (2010) Two-part choir and piano, 7 minutes – A short choral cycle of three individual numbers using original texts written by student members of the commissioning choir. Work written for the Pinckney Elementary School choir (Lawrence, KS), Julie Alley, conductor.

Solo Vocal

Donne with Women (2014) Tenor and piano, 19 minutes – A six song cycle that sets poems by John Donne all dealing with the various moods he displayed towards the women in his life. Commissioned by Dr. Stanley Warren.

My Dearest Friend (2013) Mezzo soprano, piano, bass trombone, percussion, 15 minutes – A six song cycle that sets selections from letters Abigail Adams wrote to her husband. Letters range from flirtatious teasing to poignant outbursts of grief. The cycle also includes a setting of the famous letter Abigail wrote that calls for John to “Remember the Ladies.” Commissioned by Dr. Hope Thacker for her Carnegie debut recital. Piano/vocal reduction available.

Warning Music (2009) – Spinto soprano, piano, percussion, 7 minutes – a short satirical cycle written for attendance and premiere at the soundSCAPE new music festival. Cycle sets several warning labels that are gratuitously obvious, intellectually insulting or unintentionally humorous. Piano/vocal reduction available.

Elemental Songs (2009) – Lyric mezzo soprano and piano, 15 minutes – A set of six Emerson poem settings all dealing with the poet’s relationship with nature. Texts include “The Ancient Pine,” “Teach Me Your Mood,” and “Dissipation,” among others. Premiered by Kristee Haney.

Instrumental

Mesophase (2016) – Woodwind Trio (Fl., Cl., Sax) , 11.5 minutes – A three movement work exploring themes related to liquid chrystals. Commissioned and premiered by the LCD Trio, based in Martin, TN.

Warrenton Variations (2015) – Wind Ensemble, 6.5 minutes – A set of 10 variations on the WARRENTON hymn tune that joyfully romps through all the emotions present in the text usually associated with the WARRENTON tune (“Come Thou Fount”).

Old Hickory on the East Portico (2014) – Orchestral brass, timpani, percussion, 2.5 minutes – A celebratory fanfare commissioned and premiered by the Jackson Symphony Orchestra to welcome their new conductor, Peter Shannon. Arch form, triumphant flourishes, and just enough Mixolydian mode.

Front Range (2010) – Full Orchestra, 5 minutes – A concert overture inspired by a majestic vista of the Rocky Mountains. Broad and sweeping with jagged peaks and rushing mountains streams. Premiered by the University of Kansas Symphony Orchestra.

Tre Torri (2009) – Solo Violin, 9 minutes – A three movement suite depicting three of the remaining medieval towers that still stand in the wonderful town of Pavia, Italy. A virtuosic showpiece commissioned and premiered by Ruth Keufler.

Sussex Carol (2015) – TTBB, 2 minutes – A new setting of the English carol for the Union Men’s Choir using the four verses collected by Ralph Vaughn Williams.

Lo, How a Rose E’er Blooming (2013) – Two-part choir, piano, and C-instrument – A macaronic arrangement that sets four verses in English and which includes an optional repeat of the first verse in Latin.
